As part of our series in freshening up the house, let’s turn to the bedroom.

Turn your mattress and, if you can, put it outside on a nice warm day to air it out. Vacuum your mattess every time you change the sheets and you won’t have a problem with those pesky dust mites.

 Pillows and quilts

Make the most of the lovely weather and put all your bed pillows and quilts out in the sun for airing. Plump your pillows and if they’re clumping not plumping… you know the drill… replace them!

So… what to replace your pillows with? If you or someone in your family suffers from allergies, go for a really good quality polyester or latex pillow.

There are some really cool gel pillows on the market now. They’re usually constructed from premium memory foam and incorporate a cooling gel, which is ideal for warm sleepers. These pillows mould to the contours of your head, neck and shoulders.

If you love the feel of feather and down, we recommend 80-100% down for a really luxe feel. Down pillows are soft and easy to mould for comfort and support. These pillows are very durable if they’re well cared for. Launder or dry clean at least annually as per the label. The important thing to remember is that if a feather or down pillow gets wet, it needs to be dried quickly otherwise it will start to smell. Throw it in the dryer with a tennis ball.

For a quick freshen up of your down pillows and quilts, throw them in the dryer with a tennis ball. This will fluff all the feathers beautifully.

Take up your rugs and vacuum them then air them in the sun. If you need a more intense clean, have them steam cleaned.

Steam clean your carpets, you’ll be surprised what a difference this makes to the durability of your carpets, not to mention the look of them!
